Of course women are as financially astute as men if not more so when it comes to hunting out sales bargains and shopping for everyday personal, family, travel and household buys. It's just that we often find the subject of finance yawn-makingly boring and imagine that men know about this subject than we do. Which can be a mistake!

As a consequence women may well be paying over the odds by being poorly informed about their choices. We are often too busy to do our homework thoroughly in advance, tend to be more loyal customers than men and often are too trusting of car sales staff. We might confuse value with cheap, can be influenced by a 'special offer' which isn't as good as another deal and we often favour brand names we recognise regardless of better terms elsewhere.

Much as women drivers describe their motor industry dealings as 'too blokey' many see financial services in a similar light; products designed by and for men with baffling acronyms, ever variable terms and conditions and a superior 'trust me, I know best' sales attitude.
