Hug a female friendly mechanic…

I am delighted to report a sense of humour in the gloomy retail motor industry tonight.

In support of Children in Need, female friendly Toyota car dealerships in Bradford, Huddersfield and Silsden are holding the UK’s first ‘Hug a Service Technician’ event until the end of October. In exchange for a £5 donation women drivers can don an overall and go and hug the mechanic of their choice (one only I am told) in the workshop I presume…

Just in case they are overwhelmed, there are dealership salesmen, managers and principals standing by to oblige! At least they have the time to do this now I suppose ;-(.

Maybe ‘Hug a Hunk’ might have been a more memorable monniker but I do wish them lots of success with this excellent PR wheeze.

Which then reminded me of when I was doing my homework recently about quality standards in garages…

I came across a scheme organised by the South and West Yorkshire trading authorities, called a Motor Trade Partnership, with informed teeth by the looks of things. Unlike other well-intentioned trade schemes that look for basic business, legal and health & safety compliance, this one really does delve deeper into workmanship standards with an emphasis on safety. I mention this because Pentagon Toyota branches at Rotherham and Doncaster have both signed the female friendly FOXY Promise which means they are clearly offering a lot more for men and women drivers too…but not hugs yet or we would know!

Sounds like a forward thinking area for Toyota dealerships.

Maybe other businesses might follow suit by adding a free hug of your choice with an MOT or car servicing. I suppose it will depend on the choice of mechanics but how could you ever complain afterwards?

If any garage or dealership fancies trying it, we’d be happy to promote it with a suitable photo of course, in our female friendly garage listings at FOXY Choice.
