Isn’t ‘snollygoster’ a fantastic word – so foxy.
In case you haven’t seen or heard it before it means ‘chiselling ba****d’ in my language and is SO appropriate in today’s unprincipled business world.
And whilst you might think it was invented to describe MPs and Bankers fairly recently it turns out to be an old word that, politely, is described as “shrewd, unprincipled people” and its use was first recorded in 1855.
So, who are today’s snollygosters… feel free to nominate yours in addition to
- MPs who expect the tax payer to fund frivolities
- Unrepentant bankers who brought our economy to its knees but got paid handsomely
- The many Madoffs we have yet to expose
- Untalented so-called celebrities
- Employers who ‘lose’ pension funds
- Anyone who fleeces the old and vulnerable
- Unscrupulous garages/car dealers who place our lives at risk
- Finance companies who don’t care who they lend to and then tighten the screws
- Bullies of all ages
Rant over – I feel so much better now…
Certainly a word for our times and it’s a shame we need one.
FOXY Steph
