Petrol prices penalise women drivers

I keep an eye on the cost of motoring for obvious reasons and fuel is an important ingredient.

I found an interesting comment that makes sound sense to me from Mohammed at the PetrolPrices blog today…

“Petrol went to £1.20 when oil went to $140 per barrel, when oil was at $70 per barrel, petrol was 79p a litre, so, I don’t understand how the £1.20 per litre is justified, in any case, this is going to make eveything else more expensive and life very difficult and probably cost labour the election, and cause misery for us just normal people. In the US petrol is still arround $1 per gallon (not litre), how does that happen?”

FOXY Lady Drivers Club sees the latest rise as an unfair tax on many women drivers because

1/ community mums are more likely than men (no offence intended to community dads who will understand this point) to have multiple children in tow and who need to get them to and from schools, afterschool activities, health centres and so on

2/ we are more likely to work part time and our schedules rarely make car sharing practical

3/ we don’t always remember everything we need in a weekly shop (which may or may not get delivered…) and few of us live within walking distance of the shops you need

4/ we should be able to go out at night on our own and safely

Speaking personally, I live in a village with an occasional bus service that rarely connects with trains along the coast. It can take me hours for a short drive. If I didn’t run a car I could be well and truly cut off from life…

So the motorist is clearly being shafted by HM Government who is penalising those of us without a travelling choice…

They just don’t understand do they? As in the recent and highly patronising advertising suggesting ‘we’ ie I drive 5 miles less a week – again I saw that as a poke at we working Mums who need our cars to do sterling and often unpaid work for the community…
