Could be you clicked on one of FOXY's news items and found yourself here?

I'm Steph and I run a motoring club for women. Not sure about the Mumsnet mention?

As yet we don't include taxi firms but this subject was recently covered by the Telegraph
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/road-safety/9573645/Women-only-taxi-firms.html

Hope this gives you some fruitful links for a future business.

Kind regards

Very confused when I registered to find I have a kind of subdomain blog. I just wanted to make contact and ask a few questions. What am I supposed to do with a blog on here?! Write about cars? Or am I on mumsnet?? Who will find it and without some kind of personalised part of the domain name I'm not sure I wouldn't just be writing free articles for a site I simply wanted to find out more about! Am I incredibly technically dim?! I'm no longer sure...!
So, really, if this is reaching the lovely Steph, I was sidetracked by this site when doing a search for female minicab drivers. A part-time job that would suit me down to the ground, even night work. But I think I'm on the wrong site aren't I?!
See, I think there's a huge gap in the market here for women drivers for children (school runs, parties, etc) and older people doing shopping. Or just anyone who might prefer a LadyDriver. Even a foxy one! Anyone want to start a business doing just that? Men can be on the team too. I know of gay men who prefer being picked up from clubs by women late at night.
By the way, the domain name LadyCabs.com is up for sale. Not cheap, but good domains aren't.
Not sure who's reading this - Steph? - her loyal readership? But I want to start a low start-up cost business, flexible hours, and I like working with women. Foxy, cool, funky, any age women. Cool dudes too.
Anyone want to talk?

FOXY is quick to pick up on and support signs of female friendly services in the motor industry! It's been a male bastion for too long and those that are getting it right for women should be SHOUTING about this to women anyway!

Are you aware of FOXY Choice's female friendly garage network and specialist marketing services? Having made the commitment with Women in Gear evenings we can help you keep the female friendly message alive. And there are other services we could offer that might appeal. Let me know when the time is right to chat.

Hi Steph,

We are happy to read that you found the evening both informative and enjoyable, and that our staff were helpful throughout. In total we ran 4 of the ‘Women in Gear’ events, and were happy to see that they were all well supported! Thanks for attending and we hope to see you and many others at future events.

By all means tell us more Andrew. How do you know this, what was the PR about if not auctions (it seemed clear at the time) and what advice would you give women about buying at car auctions?

Foxy Lady drivers should not be deterred from buying at auction because although the survey was conducted on behalf of Manheim Auctions it was nothing to do with buying cars at auction. Maybe the press release should have been more clear!

Thank you for this Hattie.

If you would like to name and recommend the garage and mechanic in question please do this at the FOXY Choice female friendly garage website http://www.foxychoice.com so we can post your testimonial online where other women may see it.

Too few women realise that this is an unregulated industry where anyone can set up a garage and where mechanics don't have to be qualified to do a good job.

Just imagine an unqualified electrician let loose in our homes yet an unqualified mechanic is allowed to fix our brakes and tinker with complex electrical systems.

That's scary.

I tried all my local mechanics in an effort to fix my rather crappy Fiat to no effect. Then my badly designed italian car died, so I call the RAC to come and fix it. Best thing I ever did. The RAC towed it to the nearest RAC approved garage and thats when I discovered what a joy an honest mechanic is.

It turns out that the succession of mechnics that my car had visited had failed to tell me about the bodge jobs done on my engine (a plastic garbage bag place over the car computer to stop moisture getting in), the brakes, the rust ... its a wonder it ever passed MOT (it should never have passed MOT). To add insult to injury they charged me for services, MOTs ... Ijust want to scream thinking about it

The italian car was scrapped

My new 12 year old Subaru went and had a check up with this new found RAC approved mechanic and while it needed work done this was explained to me - I was charged a reasonable amount. I was also told what expense would be comming around the corner based on current wear and tear.

This mechanic was also extraordinarily popular, booking in for MOT and service was a 3 week wait, but for the peace of mind very worth it

So my reccomendation is find out where the RAC approved mechanics are (there are not many of them) and go there - to be approved you have to good, you ahve to be able to cope with a range of card from crappy (mine) to the latest. This is lucrative income that means the mechanic has to stay good at his job
