AA: 1 in 10 have slept at the wheel
The AA has revealed ten per cent of motorists have admitted to nodding off behind the wheel of a car.
It was also found 28 per cent say they carry on driving despite feeling sleepy if they are trying to reach a particular destination, while one in 20 have claim they never think of stopping under any circumstances.
Andrew Howard, head of road safety at the AA, says: "Many of the motorists driving this weekend will not regularly drive long distances, so there will be a temptation to skip breaks and keep driving."
He claims up to 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year as a result of falling asleep.
Last year, car insurance company Sheila's Wheels revealed women are statistically safer drivers than men.
The company claimed female motorists are less likely to be caught up in larger accidents involving big car insurance claims.
