Advanced driving courses 'should lead to cheaper cover'
Young male and female motorists should be offered financial incentives to undertake extra training, it has been suggested.
The Association of British Drivers backed the AA's call for novices behind the wheel to be rewarded with cheaper car insurance if they demonstrate a commitment to improving their skills.
However, the group claimed additional measures to encourage inexperienced motorists to further their on-road education should also be introduced.
Founding member Hugh Bladon explained: "If the government were sensible, they would give people plus points instead of minus if they've passed some sort of accredited improvement course."
He stated advanced training can be extremely useful as some people are over-confident when they first pass their test and fail to appreciate the potential consequences of mistakes they might make on the road.
Female motorists who have recently lost their L-plates may find they can get some of the best deals on cover by choosing specialist insurance for women drivers.
Ladies are often able to secure cheaper protection because they are regarded as posing a lower risk than their male counterparts.
