Award-winning car 'could be cost-effective choice'
Female motorists looking to buy a car that will allow them to reduce their running costs may be inspired by the recent What Diesel awards.
The top prize for motor of the year 2009 was taken by the Ford Fiesta and the magazine's editor, Ian Robertson, said it was the ideal vehicle for drivers today.
"It's a car that is perfect for these recessionary times, offering a top-class package, with a fantastic driving experience at a reasonable price," he stated.
The magazine's readers and a panel of judges chose the winning model.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen won the publication's green award and the manufacturer's Golf was named the number one medium car.
Other winners included the Audi A5 Cabriolet - which drove away with the title of best convertible - and the Citroen C5 Tourer - which scooped the top spot in the estate model class.
Female motorists who buy the Ford Fiesta may find they can secure a great deal on specialist insurance for women drivers as a result of the car's relatively small engine size.
