Bad driving habits 'could be costing women drivers thousands'

Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'

Female motorists could be shelling out thousands on car repairs as a result of damage caused by their own bad driving and vehicle maintenance habits, new research has suggested.

A study by Tesco revealed 78 per cent of road users have failed to undertake regular motor checks - such as testing tyre pressure - and 14 per cent drive around in the wrong gear.

The poll also found almost half of motorists had no idea when it came to the cost of car repairs.

Allan Burns, head of insurance at Tesco Personal Finance, said: "Faulty driving and maintenance habits can lead directly to parts failing or suffering unnecessary wear and tear."

He added the current economic climate meant it was more important than ever for motorists to look after their cars to prevent any unexpected repair bills.

In September, Tesco warned that the warranties of more than 400,000 drivers were due to run out leaving them exposed to the possibility of a costly trip to the garage.
