Basic car checks 'could help avoid expensive repairs'

Women motorists keen to avoid an expensive trip to their local female-friendly garage may want to make sure they are regularly getting under the bonnet.
Auto care company Comma has warned a significant number of drivers are failing to do this and putting their vehicle at risk as a result.
Research by the group revealed 18 per cent of car owners are driving around with dangerously low levels of oil in their engines.
It explained this can lead to serious mechanical faults developing, adding the average cost of repairing such damage is £1,413.
Spokesman Mike Bewsey suggested drivers take a leaf out of the book of their motoring ancestors.
He claimed that in the past such car checks were carried out "religiously".
"We're far too reliant on technology and we've allowed ourselves to become far too lazy," Mr Bewsey stated.
Meanwhile, women drivers who do need work carrying out on their auto should find they are not patronised by staff working at a female-friendly garage.
