Brits 'back scrappage scheme'
The majority of motorists would welcome the introduction of a vehicle scrappage incentive scheme, it has been claimed.
Research conducted by uSwitch ahead of tomorrow's Budget found 80 per cent of drivers would be open to the idea of getting rid of their old banger in return for a cash incentive.
However, the price comparison website pointed out if all of these 25 million motorists took the government up on its offer, the scheme would require £50 billion.
It stated the country's leaders have placed a spending cap of £560 million, adding this could lead to a lot of disappointed drivers.
Commenting on the study's findings, insurance expert with uSwitch Mark Monteiro said the overwhelming support for a vehicle scrappage incentive scheme suggests Brits are still keen to update their autos.
"Motorists actively want to be able purchase new cars but are financially restricted as everyone tightens their purse strings during the downturn," he stated.
Women drivers who cannot afford to trade in their ageing auto may find taking their vehicle to a female-friendly garage for a thorough service can help to keep it on the road for a few more years.
