Brits 'lying over insurance' 17 April 08
Female motorists could be among those who have admitted to lying over car insurance applications, according to the latest research.
Comparison site Insurance.co.uk has found that around a quarter (26 per cent) of motorists had lied on the application for their car insurance, with one in ten claiming to park their vehicle in a more secure area than it actually is.
"Many motorists would never dream of illegally driving without insurance, but they seem to be blissfully unaware that entering inaccurate information on a motor insurance application could make their policy worthless," said Steve Grainger, head of Insurance.co.uk.
Young drivers up to the age of 24 were found to be the worst offenders, with a third of this age group admitting to providing false information to their insurer.
One per cent of all female drivers and male motorists admitted to lying about their address, penalty points or other serious criminal convictions, the research found.
Statistics released by MoneyExpert earlier this week suggest that drivers are being put off taking to the wheel of their cars due to the cost of fuel and insurance, among other things.
