Brits 'zoning out behind the wheel'
Male and female drivers in the UK could be increasing their chances of having an accident because they do not concentrate when behind the wheel, according to new research.
A study by Continental Tyres found 60 per cent of motorists admit to zoning out while in control of a vehicle.
Of the 4,000 people questioned, over 40 per cent said being disinterested in the road ahead made their focus wander, while 27 per cent put their lack of concentration down to a short attention span.
Spokesman for Continental Tyres Guy Frobisher said with people struggling to give due care to what they are doing on the road, it is even more important they do not try to multi-task.
He stated: "Our advice is to avoid distractions like eating or drinking or making a phone call, even if hands-free."
Meanwhile, women drivers keen to do everything they can to stay safe on the road may find booking their auto in for regular car servicing can help prevent it developing the kind of faults that could cause an accident.
