FOXY Newsdesk Could car-sharing work for you? 05 November 08
If economic pressures are on your mind, car-sharing could be a way to save some money and lower your carbon footprint at the same time, says one industry group.
Work Wise UK organised Commute Smart Week, which aims to promote "smarter" practices. Liftshare.com backed the initiative and said car-sharing can not only reduce congestion and money, but also help your social life.
"Car-sharing makes great business sense," explained Liftshare.com spokesperson Cecilia Bromley-Martin.
"Also many great friendships are made through car sharing schemes."
The idea of sharing lifts might seem inconvenient, but with a bit of planning it could work well, especially for lone women drivers who work late shifts or unsociable hours.
In addition to splitting fuel costs, there could also be less to pay for parking as well as knowing the journey is that bit more eco-friendly than driving alone.
Other initiatives encouraged during Commute Smart Week included home working and flexible hours.
