Do not be misled by garages, expert warns
Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'
Female drivers should be wary of garages recommending unrelated and unnecessary repair work, a sector commentator has urged.
Duncan McClure Fisher, managing director of Warranty Direct, explains it is a "sad state of affairs", but it can happen.
He says the average motorist may be unaware that certain elements of recommended repair work are not required.
"We are releasing our findings not only to protect the motorist but also to allow some unscrupulous garages to get their houses back in order in the interests of the industry as a whole," Mr McLure Fisher concludes.
In the most extreme example Warranty Direct found, a Peugeot driver was given a quote for work that was 2,200 per cent more than the repairs which were actually necessary.
Mr McLure Fisher's comments follow the publication of a study by consumer organisation Which?, which suggested some car dealers give misleading advice to their clients.
