Female drivers may be among the UK's motorists paying too much for car-related costs such as insurance.

Recent findings by swiftcover.com have shown that Britons are paying £1.9 billion more for their car cover than they should be as a result of failing to shop around for the best deal.

Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, commented: "With household bills rising ever higher, it seems crazy that UK consumers should willingly waste over £1.9 billion by sticking with the same old insurer year after year."

The firm has issued a number of tips women drivers may find useful in cutting the cost of their insurance.

Among the suggestions is to drive a smaller, less valuable car and not pay for policy features that will not be used, for example overseas cover.

Meanwhile, insurancewide.com also recently suggested that drivers could be throwing money away by simply renewing their insurance policy instead of shopping around.
