Women drivers planning a holiday in the UK this summer may want to check their tyre pressure before setting off.

ATS Euromaster has pointed out motorists may need to pump up their tyres more than usual if they are carrying additional weight.

The company encouraged people to consult their vehicle's handbook for exact figures.

It stated those who fail to adjust their tyre pressure in this way may find their car does not handle as well as usual and stopping distances may increase.

The firm also claimed tyres that are not pumped up properly tend to wear more quickly and are more prone to punctures.

Commenting on adjusting tyre pressure, group operations director Chris Hufflet said: "It's a simple five-minute job, but from our experience, the majority of drivers don't bother."

Women motorists who want to check their vehicles are in tiptop condition before a long journey may want to book them in for car servicing at a local female-friendly garage.
