Women drivers who do not want to end up having to search for a female-friendly garage in order to repair a serious engine fault may be well advised to start checking their oil more regularly.

According to auto care group Comma, too many motorists are failing to take the time to conduct dipstick tests as often as they should.

Research by the company revealed Seat owners were the worst culprits, with 71.4 per cent failing to check their oil levels on a regular basis.

Jaguar and Volkswagen drivers were close behind, with 68 per cent and 67 per cent respectively not lifting the bonnet to make sure their engines are properly lubricated as often as recommended.

Comma warned neglecting this type of car maintenance can result in mechanical failure, adding the average cost of repairing an engine currently stands at £1,413.

Women drivers who are concerned about how their vehicle is running may find it useful to track down a female-friendly garage in their area.

These businesses agree not to patronise their customers and only to carry out essential work.
