Driving challenge for women 02 July 08
A series of challenges offering female drivers the chance to get behind the wheel of a double-decker bus, a JCB or a fire engine will be run by Marie Curie Cancer Care throughout the summer and autumn.
Giving women drivers the chance to drive a variety of unusual vehicles, the events will be held across UK throughout the year.
Experienced drivers will help budding motorists get to grips with their vehicle of choice, be it an articulated lorry or cement mixer, before letting them loosed behind the wheel.
The drive is to raise awareness of Marie Curie Cancer Care and participation in the women-only challenge is dependent on drivers raising £100 sponsorship money for the charity.
According to Transport for London (TFL), driving a modern bus is no more physically demanding than driving a car.
TFL said on its website: "Gone are the days when you had to be the world's strongest man to drive one.
"Or a man at all, for that matter."
