FOXY Archive Female drivers given summer road tips
Female drivers heading off for a motoring holiday this summer have been advised to perform a few simple checks to ensure smooth sailing.
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) said cars usually used for short trips in winter can encounter problems on long hot journeys.
But to avoid this, some preparation may help. The system should have enough refrigerant which should always be done in line with official manufacturer guidance.
Checking the tyres are within the legal limits for tread depth is also a good idea, as well as a visual check for cracks. Ensure the pressure is correct, the organisation suggested.
Replace the wiper blades if streaks on the windscreen show that the rubber has lost its flexibility and make sure spare fluid is kept in the boot.
Director of the RMIF Sue Robinson also gave some advice for those unused to driving for long periods of time.
Stopping every two hours and keeping snacks and drinks to hand for passengers were two of these.
Making sure adequate cover is in place before setting off may also be an important item to add to the to-do list.
