Female drivers told to focus on fuel-efficient cost cuts 17 June 08
Choosing a fuel-efficient car is a key way for women drivers to cut their motoring costs in the current economic climate, it has been claimed.
The Sun's motoring editor, Ken Gibson, pointed out that the UK's most expensive petrol was selling at a 129.9p per litre at the weekend, with the dearest diesel reaching 144.9p.
He reminded female drivers that the previous "golden rule" for maximising fuel economy was simply to go for a diesel model.
"ut the increasing difference between the price of a litre of diesel with petrol -in favour of petrol - is forcing motorists to look at the latest generation of economical models," Mr Gibson continued.
Another money-saving tip offered by the motoring maestro is to take note of a car's level of carbon emissions as this will be reflected in the road tax charged.
The insurance group a vehicle belongs to will also determine how much cash a motorist spends every year, he concluded.
Male and women drivers alike were advised earlier this month to re-consider their behind-the-wheel techniques as a way to save funds.
Green-driving guru Jay Nagley recommended that motorists avoid accelerating hard or braking suddenly, urging them instead to drive "smoothly".
