Female drivers 'tuning to family' to save money
New research has revealed more learner drivers are resorting to home tuition in an effort to save money.
According to a study by car insurance company Swinton, female learner drivers and their male counterparts are taking less official lessons and asking their peers and parents for help instead, the Press Association has relayed.
The motorists who passed their test in March had an average of 41 hours of paid-for tuition and 63 hours of lessons from friends or family in an effort to save money, the survey found.
Meanwhile, Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association, has suggested lower performance cars are ideal for new female drivers looking to save money on insurance.
"If you have a smaller car it could help to build up your no claims bonus and that is something we try and encourage young drivers to do," he said.
