Female motorists 'less likely to downsize'
Women drivers are less likely to downsize when buying a new car than their male counterparts, according to a recent study.
Research by Experian found 15 per cent of female motorists would think about opting for a smaller vehicle or engine size when trading in their current model, compared to 18 per cent of men.
Of those ladies questioned, some 17 per cent said they would be looking for a bigger car next time they made a purchase, against 15 per cent of the male drivers who participated in the survey.
Kirk Fletcher, managing director at Experian, stated fuel economy did not appear to be many motorists' main concern.
He commented: "Even when living through a downturn, there is still a reluctance to downgrade."
Meanwhile, previous research from Experian found 51 per cent of women drivers would rely on an independent garage to carry out car maintenance, compared to 43 per cent of male motorists.
