Females 'have wide boardroom experience' 03 March 08
Women are capable of bringing a varied range of experience to boardrooms, research has shown.
According to a study by the Neeley School of Business and the Cranfield School of Management, females tend to have greater experience of a variety of boardroom environments than men.
It was found that males generally have more experience in a FTSE 100 boardroom.
The findings also highlighted that females were twice as likely to have gained their degrees from what are considered to be the country's top universities.
"It has long been assumed that women possess less business experience than men and that's the number one myth we debunked," commented Dr Siri Terjesen of the Neeley School of Business. "Women are often asked to be on smaller boards and community boards and are also more likely to take short-term or part-time contracts that help accumulate facets to their experience."
Meanwhile, Oxford University and the University of East Anglia recently published findings that some women are not achieving their potential because of 'occupational downgrading' after having children.
FOXY Lady Drivers Club would like to see more women entrepreneurs enter the male-dominated UK motor industry because motoring services can be much more female-friendly.
