Fiat 500 wins 2009 design award
The Fiat 500 supermini has been given an award for its sophistication and style.
According to the manufacturer, the model was named as the 2009 Design Car of the Year at the New York International Motor Show, where it was up against over 50 shortlisted vehicles.
After making it to the final three, experts from the motoring sector chose the Fiat as the overall winner.
Head of design at the manufacturer Roberto Giolito said Italian creations in this industry were usually a step ahead of trends.
"Our latest models, spearheaded by the Fiat 500, are an expression of practical beauty, which is what the world expects of Italian cars," he explained, adding that the company was "proud" to be in receipt of such an honour.
Superminis are often a great choice for younger motorists, those looking for cheaper car insurance or women drivers who need to run lots of errands on short journeys through the city.
Those who think the Fiat 500 is a potential new vehicle for them might want to check out the upcoming convertible model, which is due to go on sale this summer.
