Garages 'need to show their commitment to good customer service'
Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'
Women drivers who recognise the importance of female-friendly garages may welcome calls for more companies to sign up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) has urged more independent firms to commit to the measures outlined in this initiative.
It pointed out, of the five thousand businesses that have signed up, 90 per cent are franchises.
The group stated the public would have more faith that car repairs and servicing would be carried out fairly if more independent garages joined the code.
RMIF director Sue Robinson said the government would judge the success of the industry by looking at how well it regulates itself and the reported experiences of its customers.
She stated: "Get off the fence, join the code and play your part to help your own business and the whole sector."
The code has been created to help male and female motorists identify garages which are committed to providing excellent customer service.
