FOXY Newsdesk Government 'must change the way it taxes drivers' 24 July 09
Cash-strapped women drivers who need a car but use it infrequently may agree it is time the government changes the way it taxes motorists.
A new report from the Commons' Transport Committee looked at this issue and one sector expert has welcomed the publication's findings.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) has claimed the study - entitled Taxes and Charges on Road Users - puts forward a lot of sensible arguments.
It backed the idea that motorists who use their vehicles frequently should pay more to the government than those who rarely get behind the wheel.
The group added taxes like fuel duty are fairer than those paid simply for owning an auto.
Spokesman Nigel Humphries stated: "Many sections of the Transcom report could have been lifted from the ABD website and press releases."
Meanwhile, female motorists keen to keep costs down may find they can get a competitive quote on specialist car insurance for women drivers, as ladies are generally regarded as posing a lower risk than their male equivalents.
