FOXY Newsdesk Green competition 'great news for motor industry'
A competition that encourages environmentally-friendly developments in the automotive sector has received praise from an industry body.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said the Technology Strategy Board's Ultra Low Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator challenge is a useful way to encourage advances in this area.
Winners of the competition will take a share of £25 million in government funding.
Commenting on the initiative, SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said: "It is the biggest project of its kind to date and shows real technology that will be available in the next six to 18 months."
The group added the programme should help the government in its aim to cut carbon emissions by 80 per cent before 2050.
Meanwhile, ladies keen to improve their green credentials may find booking their auto in for regular car servicing can help.
By ensuring a vehicle is running as efficiently as possible, women drivers can minimise their impact on the environment.
