Grey cars 'could be cursed'

Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'

Female motorists with grey cars may be concerned to hear that their vehicles seem to be more prone to breakdown than any other coloured motor.

Research by digital motoring magazine iMotor found more than a third of the UK's 1.3 million drivers with a grey model have required roadside assistance.

Green car owners are the second most likely to breakdown, while blue vehicles appear to be the most reliable.

However, it is not all bad news for grey vehicle owners as it would appear most call outs for this colour car are for things like flat batteries and tyre punctures, as opposed to mechanical failure.

Commenting on the findings, editor of iMotor Mat Watson said one theory is that hire companies tend to choose grey vehicles as the colour looks newer for longer.

He explained these vehicles often cover long distances and it is possible their chance of needing assistance is greater.

"Then again, grey cars could just be cursed," he added.

Earlier this year, iMotor reported drivers in the north of England could save some £3,000 by trading in their vehicles in the south of the country.
