Hard-up motorists 'turning away from green cars'

The number of male and female drivers searching for green cars is declining, it has been claimed.
Figures from motoring.co.uk have shown demand for environmentally-friendly models is down by 16 per cent since February 2008, despite a 58 per cent increase in online vehicle searches since December last year.
The website put this down to the recession as motorists are looking for cheaper cars rather than ones that have minimal impact on the planet.
It called for the government to introduce a scrappage incentive scheme in order to get the green agenda back on track.
The online resource explained such an initiative would encourage motorists to get rid of highly-polluting older models in favour of newer more environmentally-friendly cars.
Richard Mason, managing director of motoring.co.uk, commented: "The worst thing the government can do is delay taking action."
In other news, a recent poll by motoring.co.uk found women were less likely to get lost when using a satnav than men.
