Drivers can now get quotes on car insurance from virtually anywhere thanks to a firm offering a service through mobile phone internet connections.

Swiftcover says it is the first firm in the UK to offer quotations in this way, via a mobile site with a simple form.

The company claims motorists can get a response in under 60 seconds after filling in the form, saying it could be useful for people browsing dealerships looking for new cars.

Swiftcover marketing director Tina Shortle said by using the technology the company was "enabling people to get the facts at their finger-tips and shortening the time and hassle of car insurance quotations".

Women drivers looking for female friendly car insurance while on the go could benefit from the scheme, which requires users to text a number to get a clickable link.

Customers can also be able to access the service via a link on mobile phone home pages.

The Guardian recently printed advice for women drivers looking for female friendly car insurance, saying shopping around for a number of providers was the best way of getting a good deal.
