Keeping kids occupied 'can take stress out of car trips'
Parents who appreciate how stressful a long journey in the car with the kids can be may appreciate some new advice.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) has suggested keeping youngsters amused during a lengthy journey can make for a less stressful ride.
It explained this was important as restless kids can distract the driver and lead to them taking their eyes off the road, thereby compromising the whole family's safety.
The group pointed out that in 2007, more than 3,000 collisions occurred after a lapse of concentration caused by an event taking place inside the car.
Rospa said it was important for mums and dads to explain to youngsters the potential consequences of their actions.
Spokesman Kevin Clinton said: "Make the most of the opportunity to help your children learn about road safety."
Booking the family auto in for car servicing before a long trip could also help reduce the chances of an accident.
