Livingstone calls for fairer treatment of female workers 04 March 08
London's mayor Ken Livingstone has called for enhanced laws to ensure that women's pay gets a boost and that females are appointed to senior positions.
Mr Livingstone's comments follow the publication of the Women in London's Economy report, which highlighted that female workers in the capital receive an average of almost 25 per cent less pay than their male counterparts.
He described the situation as "unacceptable", adding: "London's economic success depends on employers being able to access the widest range of talent and a strong skills base."
According to the report, there are presently only two female chief executives in London, while a mere 11 per cent of company directors are women.
Meanwhile, the Trades Union Congress recently showcased a documentary entitled The Equal Pay Story: Scenes From a Turbulent History, which highlights equal pay victories for women that took place during the 20th century.
FOXY Lady Drivers Club would like to see more women enter the male-dominated UK motor industry because motoring services can be much more female-friendly.
