Women drivers are less likely to be following a new trend which has seen millions of motorists switch insurance provider.

Stats from MoneyExpert.com showing more than six million have changed their cover provider in the last six months.

However, female motorists are apparently less likely than men to change their policy provider, with 15 per cent of men swapping compared to 13 per cent of women.

Easier Finance reports: "The MoneyExpert.com figures show that 14 per cent of people have switched their car insurance provider, equating to some 6.43 million drivers."

Figures also show middle-aged motorists are more likely to hunt for a better deal with 17 per cent of them changing recently.

Previous figures have suggested men generally pay more for car insurance than women drivers.

Research from the Home Office has shown a whopping 88 per cent of driving offences are committed by men.
