Millions of women support lower speed limits?
11 April 08

Millions of male and female drivers across the UK have outlined their support for lower speed limits.

Following the suggestion by London mayor Ken Livingstone that residential areas of the capital should have their limits cut, a poll has shown two in five motorists to back such plans in their own areas - equating to 12 million drivers.

Recent months have seen Portsmouth introduce such measures, while Norwich is rumoured to be considering the reduced limits.

Motorpoint managing director David Shelton stated that customers often enquired about the safety features of vehicles such as electronic stability control at car-buying time but said he was astonished by the findings.

"We were surprised at the extent to which people seem ready to accept a lower speed limit in residential areas, particularly when government TV advertising is still trying to persuade more people to abide by the 30mph limit," he commented.
