FOXY Newsdesk More choice for green drivers
Women drivers looking for environmentally-friendly motors may find they have more choice than ever, if recent figures are anything to go by.
The annual New Car CO2 Report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed carbon dioxide emissions from the latest models fell at its fastest rate ever in 2008.
It found a typical vehicle being produced last year released an average of 158 g/km - a drop of 4.2 per cent compared to 2007.
The research revealed the overall share of emissions from cars in the UK has also decreased, despite the fact there are more motors on the road and they are travelling further.
Currently, autos generate 11.5 per cent of the country's total amount of carbon dioxide.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, said: "The motor industry has made enormous progress in its work to cut the environmental impact of its products."
Female motorists who opt for a vehicle with low carbon dioxide emissions should find they qualify to pay lower road tax, with some particularly green cars being exempt altogether.
