More garages 'should sign up to code'
Women drivers who have struggled in the past to find female-friendly garages may welcome an appeal from government.
Consumer affairs minister Gareth Thomas has called for more independent businesses to show their support the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.
He said it is more crucial than ever at the moment for people to feel they are getting value for money.
Mr Thomas explained: "It's particularly important during the economic downturn that consumers are reassured they're getting a good deal."
The code of practice was introduced last year in a bid to make it easier for drivers to identify reliable companies.
Ladies looking for somewhere to take a motor for car servicing or repairs may find it useful to look into female-friendly garages in their area.
Women drivers who use such firms should find the mechanics only carry out essential work and do not patronise their customers.
