Mothers 'still facing workplace discrimination' 04 April 08
Female workers with children - potentially including women drivers who work in the auto industry - face the most discrimination in the workplace.
This is according to a report by the Fawcett Society - which campaigns for equal rights between men and women - entitled Sexism and the City, highlighting the difficulties for new and expectant mothers in gaining equal treatment in the workplace.
Up to 30,000 females in Britain lose their positions every year as a result of becoming pregnant, the study found.
Additionally, women were shown to earn less than men, with employers in London being the worst for this discrimination. Females in the capital were found to earn an average of 23 per cent less than their male equivalents.
Dr Katherine Rake, director of the Fawcett Society, commented: "Behind the conspicuous wealth of the city lies a hidden story of disadvantage and discrimination affecting women at every level of business - from the bathroom to the boardroom. For the first time, Fawcett is exposing the links between these experiences. That link is sexism."
FOXY Lady Drivers Club would like to see more women enter the male-dominated UK motor industry because motoring services can be much more female-friendly.
