Motorists 'should be sent MOT reminders'
Women drivers who have inadvertently found themselves breaking the law after forgetting their MOT was overdue may support an idea from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).
The road safety charity has called on the government to send vehicle owners reminders when it is time to book their cars in for the test.
It issued this appeal as the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (Vosa) considers whether to increase MOT fees for the fifth consecutive year.
Neil Grieg, IAM director of policy and research, said the cost of the exam keeps going up, but there has been no corresponding increase in service levels.
"Vosa could add value for money by sending out reminders to motorists when their MOT is due, just as the DVLA do with car tax and insurance companies do for insurance," he suggested.
Before their test is due, women drivers may find they benefit from searching for female-friendly garages in their local areas.
