FOXY Newsdesk New report may concern green ladies
Women drivers who like to do whatever they can to minimise their impact on the environment may be concerned by a new report.
The RAC Foundation has warned there may not be enough electric cars to meet demand in the UK in the coming years.
It pointed out the government has admitted it does not expect battery-operated autos to be widely available until 2017, despite announcing it will be offering £5,000 grants for such vehicles from 2011.
However, a poll by the motoring group found 6.75 million drivers in the UK would be open to the idea of purchasing an electric car in the next five years.
Professor Stephen Glaister, director with the RAC Foundation, said the government may find they have a lot of disappointed drivers on their hands.
"It is actively promoting the purchase of electric vehicles long before there is any chance of manufacturers making them widely available," he claimed.
Meanwhile, the organisation recently urged motorists to avoid taking to the road on defective tyres.
