New system unveiled for rating car safety
By choosing a garage or dealership that has signed the female friendly FOXY Promise© women drivers can avoid being patronised, overcharged or mis-sold services at MOT, car servicing or vehicle repair times.
When buying new cars, women drivers will now only have to take into account one safety rating, it has been revealed.
Previously, vehicles were given three separate scores but the system has recently been revised so that the overall mark awarded takes into account adult and child occupant protection, as well as features included to minimise the impact of a crash on pedestrians.
Euro Ncap - the organisation that assesses car safety - explained it had made the changes to encourage manufacturers to focus on all aspects of a motor's performance.
Six models were recently tested under the new criteria.
The Toyota iQ, Toyota Avensis, Mazda6 and Mitsubishi Lancer all received a maximum rating of five stars.
Meanwhile, the Citroen C3 Picasso and Subaru Impreza were given a four-star score.
Last year, Euro Ncap announced it had decided to change its rating system because manufacturers were not placing enough emphasis on protecting pedestrians.
