Reduce speed 'and cut costs'
Cash-strapped male and female motorists may be able to cut costs by reducing their speed, it has been suggested.
According to the Money Saving Handbook by Which?, travelling at 50 mph instead of 70 mph can lead to a 30 per cent fall in fuel bills.
In addition to this, motorists were advised to avoid using their air conditioning - a tip that could lead to a ten per cent saving at the pump.
Checking tyres on a regular basis could also reduce a motorist's expenses, the guide claimed.
It explained if this important car part is under-inflated, it can add eight per cent to petrol costs.
Tony Levene, author of the handbook, commented: "If you can reduce your fuel bill by a couple of pounds each journey by making a few simple changes to the way you drive or use your car, why not?"
Meanwhile, uSwitch recently reported more motorists are turning to third party insurance as a means to cut costs.
