Women drivers who do not want to end up searching for a local female-friendly garage to sort out damage to their auto may be well advised to protect their motor from the sun.

According to Autoglym, hot weather can be even worse for cars than freezing conditions.

The group explained paintwork can fade in intense heat and the sun can bake harmful contaminants onto the bodywork.

In addition to this, the company warned plastics and rubber can start to degrade in hot weather.

However, it added there were steps motorists could take to prevent this type of damage occurring.

The firm suggested using some sort of balm may help.

Hemant Pate, the group's technical director, said: "We all know the importance of using sun cream to care for our skin and ... a good coating of wax or polish can add a vital protective layer to a car's paintwork."

Meanwhile, women who are concerned their vehicle may already have sustained damage might find they can get useful advice at a female-friendly garage.
