Road traffic electricity 'will not have a huge effect'

Women drivers keen to see more people getting behind the wheel of environmentally-friendly vehicles may be disappointed by the impact of electricity-producing roads, it has been suggested.

According to Clean Green Cars, there is not the political will in the UK to make the adoption of electric motors a national strategic priority.

This comes after the Environmental Transport Association reported a new type of road is being developed in Israel which uses crystals in the asphalt to transform the vibrations caused by traffic into electricity.

Commenting on the news, Jay Nagley from Clean Green Cars said such technology makes sense in a country like Israel which is spending large sums of money to end oil imports.

The government there is keen that all cars are electric and it makes sense in a region with lots of sun to generate power, he stated.

However, he pointed out the situation in the UK is different.

"Road traffic [electricity] could give a minor boost to the adoption of electric cars, but no more," Mr Nagley concluded.
