Roads 'need to be made safer'
Ladies who do not want to jeopardise the cheap premiums they secured on specialist insurance for women drivers may agree with a charity that has claimed the UK cannot afford to be complacent about road safety.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (Rospa) made this comment in light of a new report from the National Audit Office that said there is still more to be done to protect the millions of people who use the country's highways and byways every day.
In particular, the evaluation called for more attention to be focused on the safety of cyclists and pedestrians.
Rospa acknowledged that progress has been made in protecting road users over recent years.
However, it pointed out eight people are still killed every day in traffic collisions.
Duncan Vernon from the charity said: "Although tremendous progress has been made in reducing overall road casualties in recent years, we know that some groups of road users have fared better than others."
Earlier this month, Rospa announced it was offering courses to help improve the skills of novice motorists and reduce their chances of being involved in accidents and having to make car insurance claims.
