Scrappage scheme 'best for small cars'
People looking to buy small vehicles will get the most out of the scrappage scheme, it has been claimed.
Which? Car said the initiative could help motorists looking for a supermini or diminutive city model secure a great deal.
It pointed out people interested in buying a car with a list price that falls under the £10,000 mark would be looking at savings of at least 20 per cent.
However, it pointed out this would not necessarily be the case for those looking for larger vehicles.
"On more expensive cars, shop around for a bigger scrappage discount or check if buying second-hand is cheaper," editor Richard Headland advised.
The publication suggested one model that would be a good buy for people taking part in the cash for bangers programme is the Suzuki Alto.
It explained that under the scheme, the cost of the car falls from £6,795 to £4,795 - a saving of 29 per cent.
Previously, the consumer watchdog advised vehicle buyers that the Fiat Panda 1.3 Multijet Dynamics five-door was an excellent environmentally-friendly choice.
