Smooth operators 'save cash'
Male and female motorists appear to have changed their habits behind the wheel in a bid to save money over recent months, according to Clean Green Cars.
Jay Nagley from the organisation said reports have revealed the average speed on motorways had dropped.
He explained: "People seem to be driving with fuel economy in mind given how much it costs even to fill up the smallest car these days."
Women drivers who have not adjusted their driving style in the face of the credit crunch could make significant savings by making small changes, Mr Nagley suggested.
He stated by driving smoothly and anticipating what traffic lights are going to do motorists could reduce costs, as the thirstiest way to drive is "to accelerate hard and slam the brakes on" at the last minute.
The Energy Saving Trust, which ran the Ford Smart Driving Challenge, found by adopting smarter techniques behind the wheel the average person could save £325 on fuel a year.
