Success of code could be good news for women drivers
Women drivers who have struggled to find female-friendly garages in the past may welcome the success of the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.
According to the group behind the initiative, 10,000 individuals log on to the official website during an average week in order to find a reputable company.
Motor Codes said firms that fail to sign up might find they lose business as a result.
Director Chris Mason commented: "The Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair is a simple, clear and affordable way for garages to declare their commitment to honest trading and good customer service."
Over the weekend, a number of BBC television interviews regarding the initiative saw enquiries from the public increase four-fold.
Businesses pay £75 a year to join the code.
Ladies who are looking for a mechanic to carry out car servicing or repairs may want to opt for a female-friendly garage, as such companies agree not to patronise or overcharge their customers.
