Women drivers in the market for a used car have been issued with a top ten tips guide by the RAC.

The car expert is advising people to look out for potentially dangerous faults in cars as it unveils the Inspection Buyers' Checklist.

Points for female motorists include carefully checking under the bonnets of used cars and taking a close look at paintwork and interiors for damage.

Manager of RAC Inspections Nicola Johnson said: "Electrical components and especially the engine can be daunting, but only by properly checking these can you ensure you are make the right purchase decision."

She added potential buyers should start car engines from cold, take the car on a ten to 15-mile test drive, then start the engine again from hot.

Women drivers are also being advised to check the condition of a used car's tyres, looking out for bulges and cuts which could cause blow-outs at speed.

Both the AA and RAC also advise foxy lady drivers to run background checks on potential purchases to ensure they have no outstanding finance and are not registered as stolen.
