Tyre safety 'should not be compromised'
Cash-strapped women drivers looking to reduce their running costs should not be tempted to skimp when it comes to purchasing new tyres, it has been suggested.
According to TyreSafe, the increase in the number of people buying this important auto part online could pose a road safety risk.
It explained some individuals are opting for products with a speed symbol below the recommended level.
The group warned this could affect the way a car handles and potentially cause an accident.
It acknowledged times are tight, but said skimping on tyres is not worth the risk.
Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe chairman, said: "While many motorists may be feeling the pinch in the current economic climate, we would encourage them not to compromise on road safety."
Female motorists who fit their vehicles with inappropriate tyres and are involved in a crash as a consequence may end up losing access to the best deals on specialist insurance for women drivers.
